To me, summer really begins here in New England, when the bright orange Tiger Lilies bloom in the border between June and July. They always fill me with a hopeful, cheerful feeling.

tiger lilies bend
in from their long banks to sniff
the busy roadside
Delightful Bruce! I love the tiger lilies along the sides of the road.
ReplyDeleteThey're like a calendar reminder for me that June is ending and July is starting!
DeleteI remember some tiger lilies from many years ago in the Town of Littleton, New Hampshire. As they bent to sniff the road, the town road crew lopped off their heads with a mowing machine!
ReplyDeleteOuch!
DeleteBeheading tiger lilies? How could they!
DeleteConcertina Wire & Sky
The idea of tiger lilies sniffing the roadside brought a smile to my face.
ReplyDeleteThey sure look like they're bending out of curiosity to me!
DeleteVery beautiful haiku ~ love tiger lilies ~~ thanks, ^_^ (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDeleteThey're my favorite outdoor flower!
DeleteThe orange day-lillies grow everywhere you throw them, and I mean throw....I threw some extras in a heap of mown grass and bits of wood, and they thrived...Also thrown across the street in a mess of weeds, and they are 'sniffing the roadside'....Happy 4th
ReplyDeleteThey always remind me that the 4th is coming, sort of advance fireworks!
DeleteI love this. You've given these beautiful flowers a personality by describing their actions. Very cool!
ReplyDeletePeace
