What is it that's so charming about firefly light? It's the character of the flash, a piano-like softness of the approaching glow, followed by full brightness, a gradual diminution, all in a very short space of time.

Beautiful! This year, the fireflies are in an extreme abundance. No waiting, multiple flashes, as you so beautifully describe. I see the first ones at the bases of the tall pine trees that surround the yard. Wish the mosquitoes had warning lights to let us know they are around. With the fireflies came the bothersome mosquitoes. Something for the bats, martens and frogs to eat.
