blink

What is it that's so charming about firefly light? It's the character of the flash, a piano-like softness of the approaching glow, followed by full brightness, a gradual diminution, all in a very short space of time.

  1. Beautiful! This year, the fireflies are in an extreme abundance. No waiting, multiple flashes, as you so beautifully describe. I see the first ones at the bases of the tall pine trees that surround the yard. Wish the mosquitoes had warning lights to let us know they are around. With the fireflies came the bothersome mosquitoes. Something for the bats, martens and frogs to eat.

    Very nice overall.

    Peace

  5. I am blinking back tears of gratitude for your simple words that have transported me back to childhood, when capturing fireflies and putting them in mason jars was pure summer pleasure.

  8. Oh, a terrific haiku! The fireflies have been out in full force here every night since the start of July! I can sit and watch them for hours.

  10. I have always wanted to see fireflies too. I don't think we have any here in BC, definitely not on the Prairies where I grew up.

This is a lovely post, made my day!
