Good visual, as I could picture exhausted troops slugging along the road, fatigued, from a tired battle.
...and perhaps not even noticing the loosestrife blooming at the sides of the road.

I lived in Georgia where kudzu reigns supreme ... everybody hates it but I found a quirky beauty in it. Of course it does tend to strangle everything in its path. I enjoyed your haiku!
